A new study by Dr Karin Ried from University of Adelaide’s Discipline of General Practice, demonstrated that Garlic capsules can lower blood pressure. This is good news for anyone suffering hypertension and worried about high blood pressure.
High Blood Pressure or Hypertension, is a serious problem for millions of Australians and others in the western World. It can lead to Heart disease and many other health challenges.
The 12 week study of 50 people, demonstrated those with systolic blood pressure above 140 who took four aged garlic extract capsules each day experienced an average systolic blood pressure 10.2mmHg lower than the control group, who took a placebo.
Researchers found that this result was not obtainable with garlic powder, or raw or cooked garlic. They specifically mentioned that Garlic Powder is not stable over time.
“There is a large proportion of people out there who are on medication and some people are on four different types but they still have high blood pressure, it is uncontrolled,” Dr Ried said.
“When we gave them this garlic supplement we were able on average to reduce their blood pressure under the hypertension threshold – so garlic might be a good complementary treatment option to control hypertension.”
For anyone wishing to maintain blood pressure in the normal range, it would make sense to take 4 capsules of garlic a day. You can also do this with dark organic chocolate, for those who don’t like capsules, although it is not quite as effective.
About 30 per cent of Australian adults are hypertensive, yet only half are on blood pressure medication and 60 per cent of those are inadequately controlled.
This means that you or someone you know could benefit from this information.
If you are looking for a great Garlic Supplement, why not try AIM Bear Paw Garlic. It comes from wild garlic and has a particularly high efficacy.
